2025 Black Lives Matter
Mural Paint Day
Reclaim Radical Joy
Saturday, June 7th
11am to 4pm
Five years after the racial reckoning that swept our nation, we invite you to join us in an act of collective healing, resistance, and renewal. The Santa Cruz Equity Collab presents the Black Lives Matter Mural Paint Day Event on Saturday, June 7, from 11 AM to 4 PM in downtown Santa Cruz.
Since its creation in 2020, our Black Lives Matter mural has stood as both a courageous space for movement-building and a site of collective grief. As the mural weathers with time, our community has weathered the toll of ongoing racial injustice, systemic harm, and the fight for accountability. Now, we gather to honor what has been lost while reclaiming hope through collective action.

"We need to experience joy together as much as we need rest, presence, and aligned action. We believe in the power of joy as an act of resistance. When we gather to restore this mural, we are restoring our commitment to each other and to the work of reparative justice."
- Abi Mustapha, artist and founder of SCEC
